Episode 2: Food for Life
We’ve all noticed that food prices have been creeping up over the last year. But behind this story has emerged one of humankind’s greatest challenges. How can we produce more food, on less land to feed our growing populations?
The invasion of Ukraine disrupted complicated global food supply chains at the same time climate induced droughts and floods decimated food production worldwide, while the world’s population surpassed 8 billion people. With climate change getting worse all the time, it means more people will be looking for scarcer food supplies.
Dr Lara Dungan explores what all this means for us in Ireland, is our food supply as secure as we believe? Could this be an opportunity for Ireland as we enter a new era in food production?
