Reality Bites:
Reality Bites is a brand new documentary strand covering the stories and issues that fascinate and challenge Irish people today. From the unspoken taboos of women’s bodies after pregnancy, to the bizarre rise in male cosmetic procedures and services to the real life challenges of mounting an Irish celebrity wedding. Stage school children, dating for divorcees, Ireland’s cultural and psychological response to the financial crisis and other issues will be featured in this compelling raft of popular and accessible docs.
Over the course of the series Mairead Farrell is investigating women’s bodies post-baby. Grainne Seoige will be looking at new lifestyle trends from contemporary trends in dating to performing kids, size zero models and extreme body modification. Joe O’Shea is looking at the lengths Irish men will go to make themselves look good; Brian and Pippa, one of Ireland’s most glamorous couples, will be offering a behind-the-scenes look at their wedding. Comedian Keith Farnan offers a satirical take on the economic crisis and Ireland’s complicated historical relationship with money.
Brian and Pippa Get Married:
Brian Ormond and Pippa O’Connor are one of Ireland’s most well known couples. Brian is a TV presenter and Pippa, one of Ireland’s top models.
They got married on June 18 2011 and had their reception at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in County Wicklow. The show follows the couple on the road to the wedding and captures the ups, downs, drama and fun as they prepare for the most important day in their life.
With exclusive access to the couple, we get to see all the major events and decision making in the lead up to the big day. We see the couple as they grapple with all the challenges of planning a wedding from big details like the contentious guest list to small details like picking the cake. We chart the journey as they go from the early joy and fun of planning to the stress of the final budget.
From Mickey Joe Harte, Brian’s best man to Brian Dowling, Pippa’s honorary bridesmaid – there are plenty of familiar faces in their circle of friends that help along the way.
The show has everything for the wedding aficionados out there – the rings, the dress, the venue, the hen, stag, the bridesmaids, groomsmen and the big day itself in all its glory.
On the surface the show is about a modern Irish society wedding, but ultimately it is about a young couple in love who behind the scenes face the same challenges and struggles as most Irish couples do on the lead up to their wedding.
