TTV – Sweded TV | WED OCT 29th at 6:30pm on RTÉ TWO
Inspired by the YouTube phenomenon of sweding, Sweded TV sees young people around the country make do-it-yourself versions of popular TV series from Prime Time to Eastenders.
Sweding is all about on-the-cheap filmmaking so sets, graphics, costumes and special effects have to be made using everyday household items or whatever you can get your hands on.
The series of 10 Sweded TV episodes were created by four groups of teenagers who were chosen from a nationwide competition. Applicants were asked to suggest which shows they would like to swede and how they could make them as funny as possible. Some applicants were pre-existing groups and others were groups of friends who got together to take part.
The successful groups were the Swan Group from Dublin’s North Strand, Friends from Barna in County Galway, Take 5 from South County Dublin and TeachDubh from Cork.
Each group took part in a workshop to develop their ideas, led by Sweded TV director David Coffey, who is best known as Dan from hit series Dan & Becs. The resulting films are each between 1 and 3 minutes long and make for great comic viewing.
Sweded TV can also be found on www.rte.ie/swededtv.
