RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta scoops 3 Awards at Gradaim Chumarsáide an Oireachtais
RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta scooped three awards at the annual Gradaim Chumarsáide an Oireachtais celebrations held in The Clanree Hotel, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal on Friday 13th April. The Oireachtas media awards are presented in recognition of the contribution made by radio, television and print journalists /broadcasters who work through the medium of Irish and were presented by Éamon Ó Cuív, TD, Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.
For the first time ever this year, the Oireachtas na Cásca festival (12th – 15th April) ran concurrently with the Pan-Celtic Festival and attracted large numbers to Letterkenny last weekend. Live broadcasts on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta during both festivals included Barrscéalta and RónánBeo@ 3 on Thursday and Friday, Seó Beo an tSathairn on Saturday and Aifreann an Oireachtais live from the St Eunan’s Cathedral, Letterkenny on Sunday.
The Clár Raidió na Bliana Award (Radio Programme of the Year) was presented to currrent affairs programme Seó Beo an tSathairn. Each Saturday morning, presenter Brídóg Ní Bhuachalla chairs discussion and analysis by a studio panel of major news stories as reported in the weekend’s newspapers as well as other topical issues. The producer is Cearbhall Ó Síocháin who is assisted by Andrea Ní Bhroin.
Pearsa Raidió na Bliana (Radio Personality of the Year Award) went to the inimitable Rónán Mac Aodha Bhuí who presents a zany mix of entertainment, fun, competitions, gossip about big stars, herbs and remedies and the resident Mary Aggie in his RónánBeo@ 3 slot Tuesday – Friday, live from RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta’s studios in Doirí Beaga. He presents Géill Slí on Monday nights – an entertaining and eclectic mix of music, chat, text requests and competitions for younger listeners.
Eoin Ó Murchú, Eagraí Polaitíochta RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta (Political Correspondant) was presented with the Colúnaí na Bliana Award (Columnist of the Year) for his column in the newspaper Lá Nua. A native of Dublin, he is a senior RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta staff member based in Leinster House where he is chairperson of the Oireachtas Press Gallery. He has extensive knowledge of contemporary history and politics and has contributed to many publications including Magill, The Village, Foinse and Lá.
