Patrick M. Foley wrote three valuable but largely forgotten histories of the Dingle peninsula at the turn of the 20th century. He then emigrated to USA in 1908, leaving behind his wife and two infant children. He wasn’t heard of again until 1930, when a knock on the door in Ireland announced his death in Oklahoma – seemingly at the hands of the KKK. Dara Ó Cinnéide travels to Boston, Texas, and Cherokee Country in a bid to find out the truth about the life and death of this mysterious writer of note.
Ag tús an 20ú haois, scríobh Patrick M. Foley trí leabhar staire luachmhara, den chuid is mó dearmadta. D’imigh sé ar imirce go Stáit Aontaithe Mheiriceá in 1908, ag fágáil ina dhiaidh a bhean chéile agus beirt leanaí óga. Níor chualathas trácht air arís go dtí 1930, nuair a fógraíodh a bhás in Oklahoma le cnag ar an doras in Éirinn – agus dealraíonn sé go raibh baint ag an KKK lena bhás. Taistealaíonn Dara Ó Cinnéide go Bostún, Texas agus críocha na gCherokee chun iarracht a dhéanamh an fhírinne faoi shaol agus faoi bhás an scríbhneora mhistéaraigh iomráitigh seo a nochtadh.
