The tuba doesn’t immediately spring to mind when talking jazz, but in the hands of Daniel Herskedal it has taken its place as an instrument of enormous versatility and lyrical expression. He visited Ireland on a Music Network tour last autumn, and RTÉ lyric fm was in the Pavilion in Dún Laoghaire to record his trio in an extraordinary night of music. Ellen also chatted to him about his unique path through his art, his herd of reindeer, and the importance of the natural world in his artistic journey. Hear concert highlights and interview this Saturday on Vespertine.
