PRO CATHEDRAL PROGRAMME
This evening on Nationwide, the programme focuses on the history of the Pro-Cathedral in Dublin. St. Mary’s Pro Cathedral was built during the era of the Penal Laws, and was given the title Pro-Cathedral in advance of the building of a new cathedral for Dublin. However, two centuries later, this remarkable church continues to serve the people of Dublin as its unofficial Catholic Cathedral, now celebrating its bicentenary.
The Dublin Diocese is now seeking to have it designated as the official Catholic Cathedral of Dublin, something the city has not had since the Reformation. Reporter John Kilraine tells the fascinating story of this historic church on Marlborough Street and the historical significance it holds in the heart of the Capital. Also, the team meets members of the Palestrina Choir who are based in the Cathedral.
The Palestrina Choir of the Pro Cathedral is well known in Dublin among those who appreciate liturgical music. Countless hours of hard work and dedication go into preparing for the 11 o’clock Mass each Sunday. Reporter Valerie Waters visited the boys of the choir during one of their weekday rehearsals and hears how they prioritise the choir above all other commitments.

LIFES CHALLENGES
On this evening’s programme, Nationwide meets families in different parts of the country who are dealing with different challenges.
Firstly, featured on the programme is last year’s winner of the annual MS Carer of the Year Award, as MS Ireland prepares to announce the 2025 recipients this evening. The award honours the dedication of carers who support people living with Multiple sclerosis. Patsy Fagan from County Meath won the award last year, and reporter Zainab Boladale visited Patsy and his wife Liz to hear their inspiring story.
