Episode 1
Nine-year-old Cayden was born with a condition called Arthrogryposis which affects his hands and feet. He also has scoliosis and requires multiple surgeries each year and will continue to do so until his late teens. Cayden lives in Killinarden, Tallaght with his Mam Sinead, Dad Ronald and 15-year-old brother Ethan in the family’s 3 bed terraced house. He is fully dependent on a wheelchair, but as the doorways aren’t wide enough he is largely confined to the living room or has to shuffle around the home. Cayden has to be carried upstairs to his bedroom, and to and from the toilet which is not adapted for his needs. There is currently no accessible toilet downstairs for him. There is also no available storage for all his equipment needs.
Cayden desperately needs the doors widened, a downstairs bedroom and bathroom plus a ramp to gain access to the house. It was recommended by his Occupational Therapist that the house be adapted for Cayden but, due to the very significant costs, this has not been possible … but DIY SOS – The Big Build can make it happen.
Series Overview:
The show that rebuilds people’s lives by rebuilding their homes is back. The popular series presented by Baz Ashmawy features four very deserving families from across Kilkenny, Clare, Dublin and Wicklow. The families featured face difficult personal circumstances and need help to improve their quality of lives. In The Big Build they get a significant home renovation all through goodwill and substantially delivered in just nine days. The battalions of high-vis vests and hard hats are corralled and cajoled by presenter Baz Ashmawy. Baz keeps spirits high and tensions low as teams work into the night to realise these amazing big builds.
