Home Rescue: The Big Fix is a heart-warming mix of human stories and home makeover – a whirlwind of decluttering, teamwork and positivity – changing people’s lives for the better by redesigning their homes, replacing chaos with order and rediscovering the things that really matter. The Home Rescue crew is one big family where everyone plays their part and – for designer Dee, builder Pete and their team of fitters, painters, chippies and clutterbusters – every second counts because they have just five days to complete each makeover. That’s right: five days from first sight to finishing touches! This year, the Home Rescue team brings the Big Fix to a variety of homes in Dublin, Kildare, and Wexford.
Episode 4
In this episode, the Home Rescue team helps a young family in Tallaght in Dublin, who are still reeling from the loss of their child. Laura and Mark O’Neill bought a three-bed house in Old Bawn, Tallaght in 2019 after years of saving. They have a young daughter Hannah and a little son Dominic. But their third child Ria was stillborn in 2023 and their once-happy home has remained unchanged since, overshadowed by grief. Clutter is everywhere. Clothes, toys, bags, boxes, shoes, kids’ stuff, furniture all engulf the house with every shelf and drawer filled. Precious photos and memorabilia of baby Ria and cherished belongings lie all around.
The house, although full of potential, is too cramped to be enjoyed. Designer Dee plans a reimagined, new fully functional kitchen-dining space, a revamped utility and a cosy, library-style chillout zone for the family. Together with a supportive group of Laura and Mark’s friends, Pete the Builder, alongside declutter expert Aidan and the Home Rescue team, are determined to return the joy to Mark and Laura’s home.
