Dance Master is a documentary portrait of Irish dancer and choreographer Breandán de Gallaí, whose work sits at the intersection of tradition and transformation.
Filmed over the course of a year, the documentary follows de Gallaí’s artistic process rehearsing, performing and reflecting both on early-life spent inside the boundaries of Irish dance and the evolution of dance norms in 2025. From the structured world of competitive Irish dancing to the global phenomenon of Riverdance, and now as a leading dance artist and scholar questioning what Irish dance can be, de Gallaí brings a rare honesty to the stage and the screen.
Set against the backdrop of Ireland’s shifting cultural landscape, Dance Master explores how movement can hold memory, identity, and meaning — and what happens when an artist begins to question the rules that once defined him.
