DUBLIN RIVERS CLEAN UP
This evening’s episode of Nationwide comes from the Capital, where the team explores several projects aimed at cleaning up Dublin’s rivers. They meet with anglers and volunteers who are actively removing rubbish and debris, while also monitoring water quality.
The show begins with reporter Niall Martin, who meets an angler playing a key role in encouraging the public to help keep the Dodder and Camac rivers clean.
Another group featured is Dodder Action, which has been working for several years to enhance the Dodder River. Anne Cassin meets with the group to learn more about their efforts.
The next story focuses on a local man behind The Liffey Sweeper – a project dedicated to removing rubbish, especially plastics from the River Liffey. Reporter Valerie Waters has the story.
WEDNESDAY 3RD SEPTEMBER
PRESENTER BLÁTHNAID NÍ CHOFAIGH
This evening’s programme celebrates creativity and community spirit in action with stories from Counties Waterford and Dublin.
In Dungarvan, County Waterford, a striking new mosaic has been unveiled, created from thousands of surplus and sentimental pieces of crockery donated by the public. Waterford environmental artist Sean Corcoran led a community art project that transformed everyday items into a visually captivating installation.
Also featured in the programme is Paul McQuaid, a Dublin man with a strong belief in the benefits of cycling. He collects unwanted bicycles, restores them and donates them, free of charge, to Ukrainian refugees. His goal is to expand the initiative into a nationwide programme.

BALLYFERMOT COLLEGE
On this evening’s Nationwide, the team visits a Dublin college where music and the craft of instrument-making are part of the curriculum.
Since 1995, Ballyfermot College’s Ceoltóirí course has been developing musicians who share their love of Irish traditional music, not just through performance, but through craftsmanship. Zainab Boladale visited the college in North Dublin to meet its students and graduates.
Also on the show, the team meets a student in County Kildare who is on the instrument making course at Ballyfermot College, and who is applying the skills learned to benefit his local community.
