WEDNESDAY 23RD APRIL

PRESENTER BLÁTHNAID NÍ CHOFAIGH

On this evening’s show the team meets a young Sligo man who has undergone pioneering surgery in an effort to regain his sight.  Also, the programme looks back on the life and times of one of this country’s great sporting legends, the late Mick O’Dwyer who died earlier this month in his beloved County Kerry.

Stuart Haxell from Sligo became the first Irish man to regain some of his sight after undergoing gene therapy and surgery in Dublin. Reporter Colm Flynn travelled to Sligo to meet this remarkable young man and to hear his inspiring story.

Earlier this month, the GAA said goodbye to one of this country’s best known and loved exponents of the game of Football, Mick O’Dwyer.   Micko, as he was known, was involved in the GAA for all of his life, as a player and as a manager.  In 2018 at the age of 82, Pashal Sheehy went to meet Micko as he was about to be honored by his home club, Waterville in County Kerry.  By way of a tribute to the great man, Nationwide looks back on that report.
