VOX NOSTRA WITH VLAD SMISHKEWYCH

The exquisite music of Spanish composer Sebastian Duron is the medium for absolutely glorious Holy Week music on this Easter Sunday. Vlad’s selection of works by this genius of the Spanish Baroque straddles the end of the 17th century and start of the 18th, and features his many ‘cantadas’ and ‘tonadas’, short cantata-like genres and extended arias that are some of the finest examples of Iberian music from the latter Golden Age of Spanish music. Duron’s villancicos, a genre of motets typical of Spanish composers, stand in for the morning motet and feature some of today’s finest new ensembles as well as familiar favourite ensembles from the early music world.
