Donal’s Festival Kitchen – EID AL-FITR

Donal’s Festival Kitchen” is a new six-part series hosted by TV cook and award-winning food writer Donal Skehan. This exciting show will explore the delicious food and rich traditions of some of the most fascinating and joyful occasions celebrated in Ireland today.

From Eid al-Fitr and Vaisakhi to Orthodox Easter, Rosh Hashanah, Diwali, and Lunar New Year, Donal will uncover the mouthwatering dishes at the heart of each celebration. In every episode, he’ll welcome talented chefs and passionate individuals who will share their festival traditions and the meaning and significance behind these special occasions.

Viewers will be treated to a delightful mix of culinary demonstrations, cultural insights, and personal stories. Whether you’re a seasoned cook or simply curious about different cultures, “Donal’s Festival Kitchen” promises to be an uplifting celebration full of delicious flavour!

EPISODE 1 EID AL-FITR – FRIDAY 28th MARCH 8pm, RTÉ One  

Donal Skehan is joined by chefs and special guests as they explore the vibrant flavours of Eid al-Fitr, cooking up a feast of Chicken Sambal and Shakshouka.

Donal is joined in studio by Chef Sham Hanifa of Leitrim’s multi-award winning “The Cottage Restaurant”. The TV chef and cook-book author will share his recipe for a Malaysian celebration dish, Chicken Sambal with Nasi Lemak (coconut rice). Chef Hatice Ozkavak of Dublin’s Tang Café will share her recipe for an Eid morning favorite, Shakshouka. 

Donal’s guests this week are Mayo GAA’s Shairoze Akram, who discusses balancing GAA with fasting for Ramadan, and Photographer and Phd researcher, Sujood Momani, who will share her Eid traditions and the significance of the festival.
