Episode 6
Jason Cooke & Katrina Farrelly Cooke, Wicklow
Jason and Katrina moved into this home in 2004. It had been a guest house in the 1920s and 30s and had charm and stature but lacked modern living space.
In 2021 they finally secured planning permission to undertake a once-in-a-lifetime renovation and retrofit on the property, while also doubling the footprint of the house with an extension. Their design intention was to seamlessly extend their home so that the late Edwardian, early Art Deco styling of the property could continue to shine throughout, while incorporating the space and family living needs of today.
The family describe their home as an homage to late Edwardian and early Art Deco styling, using bold colours, carefully curated furnishings and original artworks for their theme and they are proud of having completed a very sensitive restoration of an Edwardian period home.
Mary Phelan & Aiden Fitzpatrick, Dublin
Mary and Aiden live in this period home in Dublin. The couple purchased their home in 2005 and undertook extensive renovations, doing most of the work themselves over a 4-year period.
Mary says she brings the creative ideas which Aiden turns into reality. The couple always aspired to own and renovate an old house, and while this was a huge labour of love, 20 years on they still love everything about their home and what they’ve achieved.
Michael McKeown, Derry
Michael lives in Derry in this contemporary new build.
Michael is an architect and in 2020 began the four-year long process in building his home on family land. He designed and managed the build himself, and it was completed in 2024.
He decided on a contemporary design with eclectic inspiration from mid-century modern, Scandinavian and bohemian styles. He furnished his home with warm and cosy materials, dark colours and soft furnishings with pops of colour alongside contemporary elements.
Michael loves the various interesting spaces created in his home that are hidden within the simple external form.
