Included in Aedín’s choices today are three Danes and a Norwegian cellist who make up the Scandinavian ensemble The Danish String Quartet. They have become renowned for impeccable musicianship, with a repertoire that moves seamlessly from classical to folk and performances characterised by a rare musical spontaneity. Also, in the music mix this afternoon, Wallis Bird’s great collaboration with the German classical quintet Spark, Katia and Marielle Labèque treat us to Gershwin, stunning choral music from Tenebrae and Voces8 and banjo playing from Rhiannon Giddens and Béla Fleck.
