AEDÍN IN THE AFTERNOON

The British singer-songwriter Joan Armatrading has been in the music business for over fifty years.  She received an Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contemporary Song Collection in 1996 and had been nominated for both Grammy and BRIT awards. For her, writing a large-scale orchestral piece was a natural, next step on her path of creative exploration. Last year, her first classical work, Symphony No. 1 was premiered by the Chineke! Orchestra at Southbank Centre in London and Aedín features this concert recording this afternoon. Plus, Swedish mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter sings a Kate Bush song with American quartet Brooklyn Ryder, a little French film music from Betty Blue and stunning choral works from The Tallis Scholars ahead of their Dublin concert tomorrow night.
