Episode Six – Cyprus
Kevin O’ Reilly and Rachel Watchorn O’Reilly from Dublin always planned to retire to Cyprus but after both losing their jobs in their late forties, their relocation plan was accelerated. Both left the corporate world behind, and with zero hospitality experience, opened their own cafe bar. Nine years on, the move and career change has been a great success and Cyprus is where they call home. Rachel is front of house, while Kevin’s domain is the kitchen. It’s no surprise that Baz is drafted into help by peeling potatoes in the sweltering heat. Let’s just say that Baz isn’t cut out to be a sous chef!
On the other side of the island, Baz meets 46-year-old Trish Browne who left Cork for Cyprus when she was just 21. Not long after arriving, she met her Cypriot husband and they now have two children. Trish runs a successful lettings and estate agency. Life in Cyprus is good for Trish, she takes Baz out on her boat to show him how she likes to relax on the clear blue waters of the island.
Finally, Baz meets Andrew Shanahan, from Kerry who moved to Cyprus with his Cypriot wife one year ago. Architect Andrew tells Baz about how he works remotely for a Limerick based company, the benefits this brings and why he loves the social lifestyle in Cyprus.
