We travel to Rome for this gripping tale of revenge, terror, and attempted murder. Matthew Polenzani is the Emperor Tito who chooses Servilia, sung by soprano Slávka Zámecníková, to be his Empress. But when she tells him she is already in love with Annio, (sung by mezzo-soprano Patricia Nolz), he decides to wed Vitellia (sung by soprano Federica Lombardi) instead. Unaware of the honour about to be bestowed on her, Vitellia, daughter of the deposed emperor, is determined to seek revenge on Tito and ensnares her lover Sesto (sung by mezzo-soprano Kate Lindsey) in her dark plot. Pablo Heras-Casado conducts the Vienna State Opera Chorus and Orchestra in this production from the 2023-2024 season of the Vienna State Opera.
