VESPERTINE WITH ELLEN CRANITCH

For a country roughly the size of Ireland but with a population of just under 400 thousand people, Iceland has produced a huge amount of really world class music. There’s the biggies, Sigur Ros and Bjork, but so much more besides – the classically influenced Vikingur Olafson, Gabriel Olafs, Olafur Arnalds, film composers Hildur Guonadottir and Johann Johannson, and the folk -leaning quartet Amiina. I’ll also dive into the beautiful ‘Rimur’ , folk hymn tradition, which inspired the album of the same name by Trio Medieval. On the eve of Iceland’s National day, celebrate the spectacular eruption of fine music from this little volcanic isle.
