Sna trí chlár seo, atá curtha i láthair ag Treasa Breathnach, breathnófar ar obair an innealtóra Albanach Alexandar Nimmo. B’fhear fadradharcach a bhí san innealtóir Albanach Alexander Nimmo agus tá lorg a chuid oibre fós le feiceáil ar infreastruchtúr na tíre, idir dhroichid, bhóithre agus chéibheanna. Sna trí chlár seo breathnófar ar sheasmhacht a chuid oibre i gcomhthéacs shaol an lae inniu agus a bhfuil an eolais atá againn anois faoi athrú aeráide. Tá cáil mór ar an bhfear in Iarthair na tíre agus is ar Ghaillimh agus ar Chonamara a dhíreofar an tsraith seo. Sa chéad clár cloisfimid ón t-údar agus Ollamh Emeritus le hOllscoil na Gaillimhe, Noël P. Wilkins faoi shaol agus shaothar Nimmo, beidh an t-éiceolaí Piaras Ó Giobúin ag cur síos ar an togra RePEAT atá ag baint úsáide as obair Nimmo le Coimsiún na bPortach, leis na portaigh a athfhliuchadh agus cloisfimid freisin ón ngeolaí Benjamin Thébaudeau faoi shuirbhéireacht Nimmo ar thírdhreach Chonamara agus labhraíonn an tOllamh le Stair in Ollscoil na Gaillimhe Niall Ó Cíosáin linn, faoin tionchar a bhí ag Gorta 1822 ar mhuintir na Gaillimhe agus Conamara.

A three-part documentary presented by Treasa Breathnach, about the work of the Scottish engineer Alexander Nimmo. Scottish engineer Alexander Nimmo was a far-sighted man, and his work remains to be seen on the country’s infrastructure, from bridges to roads and piers. These three programmes will look at the stability of his work in the context of today’s world and what we know now about climate change. Nimmo is well known in the West of Ireland and this series will focus on Galway and Connemara. In this first programme we will hear from the author and Professor Emeritus of the University of Galway, Noël P. Wilkins about the life and work of Nimmo, the ecologist Piaras Ó Giobúin will describe the RePEAT project which is using Nimmo’s work with the Bog Commission to rewet the bogs and we will also hear from the geologist Benjamin Thébaudeau about Nimmo’s survey of the Connemara landscape and Professor of History at University of Galway Niall Ó Cíosáin speaks to us about the impact that the Famine of 1822 had on the Galway and Connemara community.
