Super Garden

Series 15 Episode 5

Super Garden, the garden design challenge, is back for its 15th series on RTÉ One.

For the winning designer it’s a launch pad to the premier league of garden design and a chance to show what they can do when their Super Garden is recreated at Bord Bia Bloom and over a hundred thousand visitors will experience their garden.

For the competition each designer is given three weeks and a budget of €15,000 to design and create their gardens. They are each given a similar sized garden to create their designs.

The location for this year’s Super Garden is Connaught Grove, Athboy, Co Meath, a recent development by Meath County Council for social housing. Here five households will have their gardens transformed by our designers. The three Super Garden judges will have their work cut out for them to pick a winner.

There is a new judge this year Kerrie Gardiner who is the show garden and horticulture content manager for Bord Bia Bloom and a Landscape Architect. Monica Alvarez and Brian Burke return with Monica representing Dulux exteriors and Brian representing Woodie’s.

Episode 5

In episode 5, Breda Tennyson from Kilkenny designs a garden for Caroline and her daughter Sarah. Caroline would like a space that she could walk into and switch off and to feel relaxed, she wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of the front of the house. Caroline’s Mam was a huge fan of Super Garden and loved the garden. Caroline’s daughter Sarah would love to have some grass kept for her to play on.

Breda is a recently retired Civil Servant from Kilkenny.  She has always had an interest in gardening and landscape. After visiting Bloom last year with her daughter and speaking to last year’s Super Garden  winner Colm Carty, she decided to take the plunge and apply to Super Garden. Sustainability and biodiversity are a passion of Breda’s. Using petrol or electrical machines to regularly cut grass is something she doesn’t like and prefers to have meadow style grass.
