Rounding off a year of Disney 100 celebrations, we dip into the RTÉ lyric fm archives with a gem from the year 2000. When Lyric was just a year old, Aedín Gormley conducted an interview with Roy Disney, nephew of Walt, who was in Ireland promoting Disney’s Fantasia 2000. A sequel to Disney’s 1940 classic, like its predecessor, Fantasia 2000 consisted of animated segments set to pieces of classical music introduced by a host of celebrities. Roy Disney spoke about the use of classical music in this beloved animated feature, what it was like growing up in the Disney household, the development of animation and his love of spending time in Cork each year.
