VOX NOSTRA WITH VLAD SMISHKEWYCH

From Motets and Masses by a Baroque French opera genius, to fiery fandangos by a workaholic Catalan priest, your Sunday mornings are never dull if you tune to RTÉ lyric fm for Vox Nostra. André Campra is on the turntable with recordings new and vintage of his Requiem, his grand motets, and selections from his opera Tancrède (based on the same story as Monteverdi’s Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda). You’ll get a spring in your step as you dance your way from the Sunday Sonata with music by Padre Soler, born Antoni Soler in Besalù, Catalunya, on this day in 1729. This funky friar was known to put in 20-hour workdays for Charles III of Spain, and is best known for his keyboard works, of which we’ll hear several this Sunday morning, including L’Arpeggiata’s colourful exploration of early Iberian and Latin American sounds, and featuring violinist Veronika Skuplik. All this and more await on Vox Nostra!

RTÉ lyric fm, Sunday 3rd December, 7am-10am
