MY BODYFIX ***New Series***

In My BodyFix, six patients get to see inside their own bodies using virtual reality imaging before they agree to go under the knife.

Being diagnosed with a serious medical condition that requires surgery is terrifying for anyone.   In this series presented by Kathryn Thomas, we follow patients with a variety of different illnesses and injuries as they brace themselves for surgery.  Using the latest digital technology, the patients see 3D scans revealing inside their own bodies like never before, and their medical conditions are brought to life.  Their surgical consultants answer questions about the treatments they propose to fix their problems.  The result is a series of extraordinary consultations allowing the viewers to grasp common medical complaints and how they can be treated.

Across the series, we’ll feature oncology, renal, orthopedic and cardiac conditions, meeting the patients who let us into their worlds, as they bravely face their treatment journeys.

EPISODE 1 OF 6

In episode one, we meet Dubliner Frank Walsh who is shocked to discover that he has coronary heart disease.  On seeing the inside of his own heart in accurate detail, the reality of his need for a heart bypass is brought home to him. Cardiothoracic surgeon Sarah Early answers Frank’s key questions about the surgical procedure and the risks involved.

By seeing these the three dimensional models of the inside of their own bodies, these patients begin to clearly understand where the problem lies, what the surgery entails and what’s at stake.
