Joe Duffy speaks with World Record holder and Paralympic, World and European gold medal-winning sprinter, Jason Smyth, after his recent retirement from the sport. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Jason describes how his faith has helped him to be the best in his sport. He explains his beliefs about marriage, death and the afterlife, and why he doesn’t like the word Mormon. Having only 10% vision, he speaks movingly about not being able to distinguish the faces of his children and contemplates the possibility of someday being completely blind. Even so, he says, his disability has been so central to his character and his achievements, that he wouldn’t change it, even if he could.
