Bizet’s searing drama about a free-spirited Gypsy and the soldier determined to win her. Mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili sings the title character, and tenor Piotr Beczala sings the role of the hot-blooded Don José. Soprano Vera-Lotte Boecker as Micaëla and bass Erwin Schrott as Escamillo round out the principal cast. The Vienna State Opera Orchestra and Chorus is conducted by Andres Orozco-Estrada.
