CULTURE FILE WEEKLY

Recorded last week at Kilmacurragh House in Co. Wicklow, one of our National Botanic Gardens, the latest Culture File panel tries to understand how our gardens – the big ones and the little ones – took the forms we know. Joining host Luke Clancy on the panel are Colin Stafford-Johnson (wildlife filmmaker), Mary Reynolds (reformed landscape designer and founder of the global movement, We are the Ark), Seamus O’Brien (author, explorer, plantsman and manager of the National Botanic Gardens, Kilmacurragh) and The Naturalist’s Bookshelf’s Paddy Woodworth.

What paths and processes brought the plants from around the world that now populate our gardens? At what cost? What has led to our present moment, with its longings, to remake the way we think about gardens, to remake our understanding of our responsibilities to fellow humans, past and future, as well as all the other living things with whom we share the planet.
