MONDAY 24TH JULY 

THE BORRIS FESTIVAL OF WRITING AND IDEAS

The village of Borris in County Carlow is where the Borris Festival of Writing and Ideas is held each year.  This event attracts visitors from all over the country and is hosted at Borris House and on the grounds of the estate.  The 11th Festival of Writing and Ideas brought together some of the top writers, musicians and thinkers in the country, some of whom gave talks and presentations.   

BORRIS VILLAGE AND HOUSE/REPORT NIALL MARTIN

Borris Village has been described as one long main street with Borris House behind the walls at one side. Our reporter Niall Martin has been finding out about both.

Wandering around an event such as this on the grounds of Borris House you can bump into many well known faces and Bláthnaid made a point of speaking to many of them including Imelda May, Manchán Magan and Fiachna Ó Braonáin.

There were many interesting talks at the Borris event, one of these with, U2 Guitarist, Adam Clayton talking with John Kelly attracted a lot of attention.

One of the guest speakers at the Borris Festival was Mariella Fostrup who has had a long a varied broadcasting career in the UK, but grew up in a Kilmacanogue, near Greystone’s in Co Wicklow.  Bláthnaid met up with her to find out about her memories of Ireland and her career in England.

WEDNESDAY 26TH JULY

PRESENTER ANNE CASSIN 

SAINT PATRICK’S CATHEDRAL, DUBLIN

Nationwide has a special programme from and about Saint Patrick’s Cathedral Dublin.  This iconic building has been at the heart of the city for over 800 years.  It is one of the top visitor attractions in the Capital. Presenter Anne Cassin hears its history and learn about St Patrick’s Choir and Choir School which in ten years time will be 600 years old.  The programme also hears about how they are looking for recruits for the new term in the Autumn. 

FRIDAY 28TH JULY

GUEST PRESENTER SHOWS – SENATOR DAVID NORRIS 

As part of Nationwide’s 30th anniversary we go back through the archives to when Senator David Norris guest presented Nationwide in 2004.  He takes us on a journey around Dublin to some of his favourite haunts in the city including Trinity College which had a huge influence on his life.
