Vlad takes a walk through the history books this morning, in the fields of exploration, science, and politics. Beginning with a spirit of adventure we follow early Ming dynasty explorers in their attempts to circumnavigate the globe: a perfect inspiration for exploring the early music of Asia and Europe at the start of the 15th century. The scientific achievements of early astronomers are also fodder for the imagination of composers throughout history, and Vlad peers through the telescope of time to bring that music to this Sunday morning. And we cap off this week’s journey by marking Bastille Day, with music from the time of the French Revolution in 1789, when events were set in motion that led to the storming of the infamous prison-fortress.
