GAELIC IN THE JOY***FINALE***

Series 1, Episode 3

With the game in Croke Park in just four weeks, the pressure is on. Philly and Rory organise one last friendly in the prison, the ‘lawbreakers versus the lawmakers’ as a team of Oireachtas members come into Mountjoy to play the lads and learn about some of the challenges prison life can throw at someone trying to turn their lives around. Philly also hears about the violence and use of homemade weapons in the prison. Serious assaults are a regular occurrence and prison officers are often put in harm’s way. Christmas is also coming up, it’s a challenging time for prisoners and their families so Rory has decided to put on a Christmas concert, ‘Joy to the Joy’ and invite the prisoners’ families into the prison for an evening of music and comedy which presents a few twists and turns in the road for our prisoners’ road to Croker. At the end of the 12-week journey, it is evident some of the prisoners have taken a lot from the experience, but will it have any long-term impact on the prisoners when they get released? And, in the short term can the lads come together as a team in Croke Park?
