SPOKEN STORIES 2: Creatures of the Earth is a RTÉ Radio Arts + Culture series of 12 Commissioned stories. Contributing renowned writers include Lisa McInerney, Donal Ryan, Billy O'Callaghan, Christine Dwyer Hickey and Belinda McKeon. The cast reading the stories for the series include Pat Shortt, Daryl McCormack, Charlene McKenna and Maria Doyle Kennedy. The half-hour stories started out from a consideration of the theme 'Creatures of the Earth', the story and the title of a story collection by one of Ireland's most acclaimed writers, John McGahern.
Now the final two commissioned stories in the series are to be broadcast.
A God Amongst Men by Louise O’Neill opens in 1990s Cork, a county mad for sporting heroes. Erin from Minneapolis arrives in Ireland to experience at first hand the country her parents left behind. Within hours her open, youthful heart leads her down an ultimately catastrophic path. A God Amongst Men is read by American Irish-based actress Annie Ryan. It will be broadcast at 7pm on Sunday 28th May 2023 on RTÉ Radio 1. and will also be available as a podcast and on Culture | Books, Music, Theatre, Film & The Arts | RTÉ (rte.ie)
