Presented by Anna Daly and Philip Boucher Hayes the series is a mix of high end medical science and personal health stories of triumph and resilience in the face of extreme challenge. It also shines a spotlight on the work of the health service right at the very coalface.
Broadcasting live on 16, 17 and 18 May, HOSPITAL LIVE Series 2 will again offer a celebration of the staff, patients and medical innovators on the frontline of Irish medicine. We will go behind the headlines of a system that’s been under incredible pressure over the last three years – but that remains a system we all rely upon. We will feature the people who, despite huge problems and frustrations, save lives and perform miracles – big and small – every day.
Broadcasting live from a purpose-built set at The Mater Hospital in Dublin – our presenters Anna and Philip will meet the nurses, doctors, porters and cleaners working in the main hospital as well as the innovators right at the edge of Irish medical science. Cameras will also bring stories from hospitals and medical centres from right around the country, to give a sense of the national effort and how this fits into the global world of innovative medicine.
Short films will feature the groundbreaking work of pioneers. Through these we will paint a picture of future healthcare not just in Ireland but for the human race. Stories, with some very personal testimony, will feature searches for cures, for rehabilitative treatments, for preventive measures that might stop people getting ill in the first place. Those short films will also tell patient stories, deeply personal pieces where peoples’ very lives are often laid bare. We will also feature surgery showcasing novel techniques that offer new hope to people who are unfortunate enough to suffer particular illnesses.
As a live event we will also champion a public service campaign encouraging the public to sign up to the Irish Blood Transfusion service to become regular blood donors thus increasing and maintaining the lifesaving supply. The programme will also feature very personal stories where lives have been saved through the intervention of blood transfusion. Hospital Live is an ambitious celebration of Ireland’s health care workers – at all levels. Series Two will highlight community, innovation and the power of shared humanity within a system under enormous pressure.
