Home Rescue: The Big Fix

HOME RESCUE 2023: EPISODE FOUR – TX DATE: Thursday 4th May @ 9.30pm on RTE TWO

This week, childhood sweethearts Alan and Orla Condron share a three bed house in the Kildare town of Kilcullen with their kids Bele and Rhys, Peaches the dog, Bobo the cat, a feisty rabbit called Moo Moo and two birds, Spike and Gerry. The house is filled with the warmth of family life but, due to her heart condition, Orla spends much of the day resting upstairs with the curtains closed.

Sharing a landing with Orla and Alan’s dark and cluttered bedroom, the kid’s rooms – which they share with their birds, are also fairly chaotic. Rhys is a keen gamer and Bele loves horses, but neither of their rooms have the space and structure they need.

With Rhys and Bele approaching the teenage years and Orla loathe to leave the world of little kids behind, Dee decides to focus on the bedrooms – creating three bespoke, future proof designs to give everyone in this family the space they need.

As friends and family row in with the clearout, the contents of the bedrooms head off to the local GAA club for sorting and Peter and his crew get started on the most measured build yet.

With a long list of bespoke joinery to complete from scratch and Dee insisting on very specific colour schemes, time is not on the build crew’s side. Meanwhile, down at the sorting centre, Orla faces a huge emotional challenge of her own – an extensive collection of baby and toddler memorabilia stored in multiple chests of drawers!

Taking her inspiration from Orla’s favourite painting – an idyllic pastel portrait of a lighthouse – Dee is determined to bring the same clean lines and sense of freedom to the house. But with work moving glacially slow and time running out fast, will her vision end up on the rocks?

Goodbye Clutter. Hello Makeover. Narrated by Irish comedian Neil Delamere.
