In the final episode of the series, the DIY SOS team and the local community in the tiny village of Coolaney, Sligo come together in their droves to provide young mother Claire Carpenter, her partner Ross Mannion and their children’s home with vital adaptations that would allow Claire to return home from hospital after she suffered a serious stroke. Ross, a former player and coach with Connacht Rugby, is well known in their local area and legions of people came out to assist on this very worthy build.
Mum of three Claire thought she just had a bad headache one afternoon when she collapsed to the floor in front of her children. Her fiancé Ross quickly called an ambulance for his bride to be and she was soon rushed to Beaumont Hospital for two life saving surgeries. Claire had a blood clot in her brain that caused her to suffer a serious stroke. The couple were due to get married in July 2022, but ever since their focus has shifted to Claire’s recovery and fundraising to adapt their home to her newfound needs.
