Many of us will have noticed that there is a growing number of community bakers appearing in cities around the world nowadays.  Our Valerie Waters went to Dolphin’s Barn in Dublin 8, to meet Gerry Godley who has set up his own micro bakery in his home, which is also proving to be a great way to meet the neighbours.

PRESENTER DONAL BYRNE

100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEATH OF ERSKINE CHILDERS

On this Nationwide special we have the story of Robert Erskine Childers, a man who went from being a loyal servant of the British Empire to being a gun runner for the Irish Volunteers and an ardent republican.  However, the man whose son later became President of Ireland, was executed as an enemy of the new Irish State for his activities in opposing the Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921.  In New York, his great-grandson, also Erskine Childers, reflects on the trauma of that period for his family.
