100TH ANNIVERSARY OF AN GARDA SÍOCHÁNA
This year An Garda Síochána will be holding a major public event to mark the 100th anniversary of its foundation. Born out of revolution and war, An Garda Síochána has evolved from being a force that, for many years, dealt with little very serious crime to become an organisation that has had to adjust to dealing with organised crime and all of the complexities of modern Irish life. Donal Byrne meets some of the women and men who serve in the force today – a force that has had its culture and diversity revolutionised in recent years.

Dublin is home to Rock Band U2 and our first story is of a Finnish woman who was drawn to visit and make her home in the capital in the 1990’s because of her love of the Music of U2. Our reporter, Zainab Boladale met up with her recently to hear about her art and her music.

We meet a Chinese man who was drawn to Ireland because of his interest in Traditional Irish music. Helen McInerney went to University College Dublin and met up with this student of all things Irish to discover his encyclopaedic knowledge of Irish history and culture.

A Luthier is a person who skilfully makes or repairs string instruments. Zainab Boladale met a Japanese Luthier in Cork city who tells us how he was drawn to Ireland from the moment he heard Irish traditional music.

We are in Wicklow to see how the county has become a base for movie making in Ireland and we visit the sites where famous films have been shot. Plus we meet a legend of the movie business at his home in the county & a renowned artist whose love of Nature has brought them together for their latest project.

We meet award winning director John Boorman who made County Wicklow his home over fifty years ago. We hear about his passion for the trees he’s planted on his land and we also meet his great friend and neighbour, renowned artist Susan Morley who illustrated his latest book, a Nature Diary which he wrote during lockdow
