Sereis 1, Episode 6

The Liffey is an intimate portrait of a river and the people it meets on its way to the sea. The six-part documentary series captures the lives and stories of a diverse group of people who are unified by one thing, the river Liffey.

Episode 6 – Conservation

The Liffey needs a helping hand as nature falls foul of human behaviour.

Ringsend local Jimmy Murray has earned his living in the Liffey since he was a young man. Now the director of the Irish Nautical Trust, he has created the Liffey Sweeper as social enterprise to help clean up the river.

Anna Collins of the Bat Conservation Ireland brings a group of local enthusiasts to Newbridge Linear Park to keep tabs on the bat population along the Liffey in Kildare.

Father and daughter Cathal and Almha McDonnell of the Dublin Trout Angling Association have been fly fishing in the Liffey since Almha was a child. They go fly fishing in Clane, Co Kildare to see how the Liffey’s fishing stocks are doing.

Philip Devereux and Lorraine Kelly are two amateur photographers who bring us on a walk through the Liffey-side fields in Lucan see what they can snap along the river.
