CARLOW FESTIVALS PROGRAMME 

Festivals and music gigs have thankfully made a long-awaited return since the Pandemic and on this evening’s programme Nationwide attends three back-to-back festivals in County Carlow including Carlow Arts Festival which offers a diverse range of creative and cultural events.  Nationwide also explores walking trails with the Carlow Summer Walking Festival and the Festival of Writing and Ideas, now in its 10th year takes place at Borris House on the foothills of the Blackstairs Mountains.  

WEDNESDAY 15TH JUNE

DOWN SYNDROME CENTRE PROGRAMME  

This evening Nationwide reports on the recently opened Down Syndrome Centre in Swords, Co Dublin.  This is the second centre open in the Capital, the other on the south side in Sandyford.   The Down Syndrome Centre is a state-of-the-art custom designed Centre, providing services and support to children and their families with Down syndrome from 3 months to 18 years.  Nationwide learns all about this new facility and how important it is to the children and their families.  

PAUDCAST/REPORT MARIAN MALONE  

A few weeks ago, 11-year-old Padraig O’Callaghan, who has Down syndrome was named Limerick Person of the Year, having produced inspirational videos on how to stay positive during lockdown.  Marian Malone went to meet this young ‘Paudcast’ star and proud son of Limerick.

CENTENARY OF JAMES JOYCE’S ULYSSES 

Bloomsday is celebrated annually on the 16th of June and on this evening’s show Nationwide revisits our programme on Ulysses which this year celebrates its 100th anniversary.  The famous novel was set in Dublin on 16th June 1904 capturing the actions and daydreams of two men as they wander around the city over a single day.  Nationwide visits sites in the Capital associated with this great book and with its author James Joyce.
