On this evening’s programme Anne Casssin presents and it’s music on the menu. Music is the universal language of mankind and for many it has been a great source of comfort in troubled times and RTE’s, Late Late Show, former musical director, Frank McNamara has fought back from cancer, covid and debt through his music. A wonderful talented pianist, Frank’s son, JJ followed in his fathers’ footsteps with an illustrious career and now the two of them are about to set out on a journey together, with a concert tour, titled The Apple and the Tree. Mary Fanning went to Meath to meet them.
WEDNESDAY 13TH APRIL
Blathnaid NíChofaigh presents tonight and as many as 19,000 brain injuries happen in Ireland every year from causes including stroke, road traffic accidents and falls. Valerie Waters met up with some people in Dublin who avail of the services of the hugely supportive organisation called Acquired Brain Injury Ireland. And with the recent news that Bruce Willis is to retire from acting was a surprise to his fans all over the world. The actor who was recently diagnosed with Aphasia shocked many with the announcement. Tipperary man Martin Quinn had a stroke in 2013, following which he was diagnosed with Aphasia. In the years since he has made a very good recovery but says more information and support for those with Aphasia is essential. Our reporter, Helen McInerney first met Martin in 2014 and returned again to meet him last week to see how he has coped with life after Stroke.

Anne Cassin presensts as Zainab Boladale is in East Cork where she meets the McCarthy women who have been running a local shop called Motherway’s in the village of Cloyne. It’s a small family business that has been providing the Cloyne community with groceries for 100 years. And Niall Martin is in Artane Park, showing the power of one person to improve their area. Tom O’Farrell’s lockdown project brought new life to the park.
