Series 3, Episode 3
50 year old Mike Shyne is from Castleconnell in Co. Limerick. He is the first man to have a makeover on the show and he desperately needs Suzanne’s help. Mike is an ambulance-driving instructor, a job he loves. He normally wears tracksuits to work. He has a tracksuit bottom for each day of the week and hasn’t worn a pair of jeans in 20 years but he now wants to make more of an effort. He is married to wife Liz for 14 years and they have 3 children.
Mike loves to make people laugh and while he takes care of himself doing workouts in his shed, he doesn’t actually show off all his hard work with the clothes he wears. Liz says he has a great physique and she is tired of him wearing tracksuits every day. Mike doesn’t own a suit and often borrows his 85 year old Dad’s suits for weddings and family get togethers.
During lockdown, Mike did a lot of work on his mental health and talking about it is something he wants to highlight. He feels that he wants a new image for how good he feels on the inside and that he wants to make Liz proud of him. Mike wants Suzanne to help him get out of the style rut he is in and to knock Liz’s socks off with a dashing new look for her 40th birthday.
Series Information
The hugely successful The Style Counsellors is back for a third series!
Presenter Suzanne Jackson is a fashion and beauty blogger. She also owns her own cosmetics company SoSu by Suzanne Jackson. Fashion and style are both her business and her passion. This season Suzanne is joined by a whole team of different Style Counsellors – including the inimitable Eileen Smith – who, over different episodes, will offer their hot takes on the latest trends. As ever Suzanne will be meeting and making over some amazing women … and one brave man … who need to add a bit of wow to their wardrobe.
Suzanne believes the power of style can make people feel good about themselves and knows how to work her way around a wardrobe. Each week, Suzanne helps a different woman (or man) looking for a fashion confidence boost. She has firm ideas about what should be in a wardrobe and wastes no time in decluttering it, as she consigns unworn items to charity shops.
Then it’s off to the Pop Up Shop where outfits are selected to help guide them back on the path to true fashion enlightenment. The participant has the exciting choice of picking one of the outfits to wear for a jaw-dropping, emotional reveal with family and friends.
The people in The Style Counsellors come from all walks of life but share a common problem – they’re in a rut clothes-wise. This might be because they have always prioritized others – juggling the demands of work, being a parent or because their life circumstances have changed dramatically in recent times …. but now is their time to shine. Suzanne offers a little help, encouragement and empowerment but ultimately it’s all about the participants and their stories…
The Style Counsellors is produced by Indiepcs for RTE.
