Omer

In 2004 Omer Alkubaisy saw Ireland for the first time and fell in love. Born in Iraq, Omer brought his family to Galway, in order to provide them with a more secure future. Ella Mc Sweeney spent the day with Omer and his family on their smallholding just outside Loughrea to find out more about what drives him on and how he plans to one day own a hundred acres and become a full time sheep farmer.

Valais Sheep

There are only about twenty Valais black nosed sheep breeders and eighty ewes in the Republic of Ireland, making the breed quite scarce. These Valais are being raised for pedigree breeding rather than for meat production. Cliodhna Muldoon from Trusk, Co Donegal has been building her stock for the last three years, keeping eight ewes and three rams. Darargh visits her as she brings them to Mart in nearby Stranalor.
