WEDNESDAY 5TH JANUARY
WAR OF INDEPENDENCE PROGRAMME
This week, 100 years ago, the Dáil met to vote on the Anglo-Irish Treaty which had been signed in London in December 1921. Donal Byrne looks back on the year of 1921 and recall two events of the War of Independence. The stories from Mayo and Kerry highlight the tensions that existed throughout the country at the time and leading up the Dáil Eireann meetings of 7th of January. Donal Byrne travels to Kerry and Mayo to hear about two of the last major episodes in that war and brings together the granddaughter of an RIC sergeant killed in one of those ambushes and the grandson of the man who killed him, to reflect on their shared history.
