On news2day this year the series ‘Frontline Families’, children told us about their parents who were frontline key workers – a nurse, a garda, a bus driver, a GP. news2day also heard from children around the world about life where they live. Children from Taiwan, Germany, the UK, Spain and Belgium took part in the Pandemic Postcard series. It showed that children have a lot in common.

Following the inauguration of Joe Biden as US President during which Amanda Gorman recited her poem, “The Hill We Climb”, news2day launched a poetry challenge. The team received many thoughtful and inspirational poems from viewers on the theme “What Matters to Me”.

When schools reopened, news2day was back in the classroom too, meeting children and reporting on all the wonderful things they were doing. Everything from climate change to art, science to nature. Children, parents, guardians and teachers continued to engage with news2day in an unprecedented way.

There were lots of other big stories in 2021, noticeably climate change. There was sport, entertainment and our furry friends kept us giggling with their crazy antics.

Presenters Mícheál Ó Scannáil and Reem El-Hassany will look back at 2021.
