2021 had it all. The world’s longest lockdown, Zapponyism, Leo’s Festival, the US Insurrection, space races, re-openings, and re-closings. Callan Kicks the Year 2021 will give it all a good seeing to on RTÉ One this Christmas.
Rounding off the hit six-part series looking back on 100 years of Ireland, this review of 2021 brings the gang back together to kick everything that had the country talking this year. Amid Kellie’s heroes in Tokyo to the Dubs’ defeat, there were feuds in Kin, rows over vaccines and a Davy load of scandals. Football didn’t come home to Wembley but Covid did, as England’s Euros went out like a flare stuffed where the sun don’t shine.

Featuring all the favourites – Leo, Micheál and Eamon face off with Sinn Féin’s Mary Lou and Eoin O Broin; plus Nicky Byrne, Dáithí, Maura and Amy Huberman. The Healy Raes chat from their pub, and the Home of the Year team review the beautiful and blood-strained house from Kin. Claire Byrne presents her guide to surviving January and Boris Johnson joins GB News. A warning Callan Kicks the Year 2021 features Donald Trump. And cuddly Paschal Donohoe talks cuckoos.

Oliver Callan is joined by the best and brightest in Irish comedy including Michael Fry, Killian Sundermann, Seán Burke, Bernard Casey and, playing the role she was born for, Mary McEvoy as Joe Biden.

Callan Kicks the Year 2021 is a Wonky Chair Media production for RTÉ, directed by Executive Producer James Cotter
