In 1970 a new literary journal called Innti came into being, providing a platform for a new generation of radical young poets in UCC. There were many social forces at play at the time, from Bob Dylan’s music to the Gaeltacht Civil Rights Movement, and now is an apt time to reflect on that era that brought about the birth of this special generation of poets who broke with tradition. In this programme, well-known poet Ailbhe Ní Ghearbhuigh speaks to two of the Innti poets, Gabriel Rosenstock and Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill, about that very exciting time, and also speaks to several other writers about the lasting legacy of the Innti generation. Guests include writer Pádraig Ó Cíobháin, poet Caitríona Ní Chléirchín, Liam Carson, Director of Imram literary festival, and Darragh Ó Caoimh, poet and UCC student, who has composed a poem for the occasion. This programme was made with funding from UCC and produced by Tristan Rosenstock.
