Peter the Donabate Dexter Farmer never thought his herd would end up grazing on Áras an Uactaráin grassland, but that is exactly what is about to happen in Episode four of It’s as Park’s Life. It is all part of Áras an Uactaráin’s biodiversity plan and we follow Peter as he prepares his herd to head to the Áras. He meets with President Michael D. Higgins when he arrives with his herd and the Áras dogs Bran and Misneach are excited too to meet this rare Irish breed of cattle!
Over at the stables at Áras an Uactaráin the Garda Mounted Unit are located, headed up by Sergeant Brendan Duffy. We follow this highly skilled unit and their horses as they embark on a training exercise through rough terrain within the park.
John McCullen, the former Chief Park Superintendent is an authority on the history of the Phoenix Park. As he prepares to publish is second volume on the history of the park we meet with him for a stroll on the 15 acres as he reveals some of the lesser known stories about the park.
