Giselle Allen sings the title role, Elektra, in Strauss’s unhinged heroine, opposite one of today’s most in-demand artists, soprano Maire Flavin, as her sister, Chrysothemis. Fergus Sheil is on the podium for one of opera’s most blistering scores, leading a cast that also includes mezzo-soprano Imelda Drumm as Klytämnestra, tenor Peter Marsh as Aegisth, and bass-baritone Tómas Tómasson as Orest.
And Paul Herriott also brings listeners Siobhán Cleary’s ‘Vampirella‘ a quirky reworking of the standard vampire myth – in this instance, the eponymous vampire is female, and she likes to feed on male victims!
