VALENTIA ISLAND PROGRAMME – On this evening’s programme Nationwide and Anne Cassin are coming to you from Valentia Island, one of Ireland’s most westerly islands. Life on the Island is sustained by a variety of businesses, tourism offerings, and community groups all pulling together to make this island a great place to visit but also a great place to live and work. Nationwide looks at what this Island has to offer and hear how tourism is a very big part of economy of the Island.

SIEGE OF JADOTVILLE PROGRAMME
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Siege of Jadotville, one of the most remarkable engagements by Irish soldiers during Ireland’s first international peacekeeping role – in the Belgian Congo – and the subject of a major film. In this programme Donal Byrne recounts the story of the battle, why the UN sought Irish involvement in the Congo crisis and how, sixty years on, there is still a sense of injustice on the part of some campaigners that the bravery of some of those who took part in that battle has never been properly recognised.
FRIDAY 22ND OCTOBER
On this evening’s show Zainab Boladale presents as it’s all about fashion and design, we meet a woman who is determined to promote Irish linen and we hear about an Irish Dog Designs business which has been getting orders from all over the country. We also meet some Donegal students who have been studying design and are looking ahead to careers in fashion.
