Episode 4 – West Cork

On the last leg of her No Place Like Home 2021 expedition, Kathryn is on a mission to explore the wilds of  West Cork, and discovers there’s more to the Rebel county than “ The Jazz”, “The Banks”, and “The Blarney Stone”!

She’s joined for the last leg of her journey by daughter Ellie so they can share the scenery and the adventure.

Meanwhile Fair City actor Rodrigo Ternevoy and his husband David Campbell discover what Dublin has to offer visitors.

Kathryn’s first encounter with the stunning West Cork landscape is a crack-of-dawn visit to Jim Kennedy who accompanies Kathryn on a kayak trip into the sunrise along the river Ilen.

Inish Beg is a private island estate just a few miles from the idyllic little port of Baltimore. Paul and Georgiana Keane, have undertaken a uniquely sympathetic renovation and rejuvenation of this island paradise. Paul and Kathryn reminisce about Kathryn’s summer spent at Inish Beg 6 years ago. Paul gives Kathryn the local tour  in one of his many vintage cars. Paul drops Kathryn off at Baltimore Pier where she’s ready to hop the ferry for the next port of call across the bay.

At Baltimore pier, Kathryn jumps on the ferry for the 15 minute crossing to Sherkin Island, one of Ireland’s most accessible off-shore islands. Kathryn hikes to the beautiful Silver strand beach and jumps in for a dip.

Mizen Head

Kathryn and Ellie head for the ultimate destination of their Western odyssey. After a trip through the stunning Mizen peninsula they reach Mizen Head, crossing the famous “Start/Finish” line. Kathryn looks back on her Summer of ’21, her journey through some of Ireland’s most beautiful places, her encounters with some determined, resilient and entertaining people.
